TUTPUP, SPIN AND SPELL, and GEOGreeting

TUTPUP (ECS - 6th)
This is just SUPER COOL! http://tutpup.com/  is a website where students can compete in educational games (spelling and math) against other students around the world.

• Your name and personal information is not required
• Teachers can set up an account so that students will only need a class CODE to log-in
• Users are identified by a creative user name which consist of a color, animal, and number (Ex: redfox196) and their countries flag.

Below is a picture of the game options and the levels available for each one.

In the picture below of the spelling screen, you can see that I played against two other students. In the spelling games, a nice sounding lady with a British accent says the word, and then you type it in and press enter. At the end of the game, you will see a screen with words and whether you and your competitors were successful. I just LOVE this.
I was able to play without setting up an account.  However, if you do choose to set up a teacher account, you can keep track of the progress that the students make.
SPIN AND SPELL (ECS and LS)

What a fun way to learn to spell.  The site http://www.spinandspell.com/ offers you a wonderfully creative game to practice spelling commonly used words.

To play:
  • click on the picture that you want to spell
  • Dial the first letter on the wheel by clicking it with your mouse.  The wheel will spin and your letter will appear below.
  • Then dial the rest of the letters and click "Submit" when you are finished.
  • If you think you made a mistake, click "clear" and start over.
  • The picture wil enlarge and the word will display if you spelled it correctly. "Sorry, Try Again" will appear if you spelled it incorrectly.
  • If you are unable to spell the word correctly and want to see it, click "Show Me The Word".

Doesn't this look like fun?  I decided to test this out with my 3rd grader.  She thought that it was a hit but her favorite site this week is listed below.

GEOGreeting

The site http://www.geogreeting.com/main.html  is not a spelling (or math) tutorial like the previous two suggested links.  It is a SUPER SUPER COOL website that allows you to type in anything you want and it will generate and allow you to send  an e-card style message comprised of letter-shaped satellite images from Google Maps.  The best part is that as you type in a letter, the image that appears provides you with the location of where it was found.  Check out the example below. I typed in I (heart) PA. You can see that the letter "A" is found in  Bangkok, Thailand.  What a great way to tie in a geography lesson with spelling.

Click on the link below to see an example of an e-card created using this site..... really fun!!
