Gotta Love a Glog

As technology changes so must we as educators.Web 2.0 tools have expanded to the point where incorporating them into your everyday curriculum is simple and fun.

Our students have been creating curriculum related posters for some time now using Microsoft Publisher.  I now challenge you to take this wonderful project to a new level.

A GLOG is an interactive poster that students and teachers can create that expand the already wonderful use of this integration project. A GLOG is different from a BLOG.  As I mentioned a few weeks ago when I started this weekly blog, that blogging is on-line journaling.  A GLOG is an on-line poster that is interactive.   A glog will allow you to incorporate your own links, embed videos, audio, text, etc... directly onto the poster.  I have listed below some instructions on getting started with the edu.glogster.com site (not to be confused with the glogster.com site which contains content that may not be classroom appropriate).

(Text and images Created by Traci Blazosky )

1. Visit edu.glogster.com.
2. Click on Register at the top right corner of the page.

3.  Even if you already have a regular Glogster account, you must STILL register for the Glogster EDU account. (You will have to use a different Email address when you register.)

4. Fill in all of your information. For Student Accounts, enter the number of students that you would like to create. (I entered 20). Click SIGN UP.

5.  You will see your Profile. It will show that you have "x" amount of Friends. These are the Student Accounts that you have created.

6. When you scroll down the page, you will see your Classmates. (Student Accounts) The Nickname of your students will include a number with your Username after it. A password for each student will be sent to your Email.

7. This is what your Email will look like. Each student is given a unique password of letters & numbers. You are able to change each password if you individually go into each account. After logging in, Click on "Account Settings" and the tab that says Passwords

8. Now the fun begins! Click on CREATE A NEW GLOG to begin!

9. Use the black tool box to create your Glogster. Begin with the WALL, it sets your background. Keep building from there! Be creative and have fun!

10. Change the layout, or click EDIT to make more changes.Change the color, font style, or add a link.
Click OK when done.  When adding a Link, paste the URL in the box.YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO VIEW THE LINK UNTIL AFTER YOU SAVE/PUBLISH THE PAGE!

11. You can change the Font, Allignment, Size, and Color here. Make sure you click APPLY at the bottom to save your changes!

12. If choosing IMAGE, VIDEO, or SOUND you will upload the file.

13. When adding an IMAGE, be sure to click on the tab to add a FRAME to enhance the appearance.

14. When adding a VIDEO or SOUND, be sure to click on the tab to add a PLAYER to enhance the appearance.

15.  Click SAVE and PUBLISH to save your Glog.

16. Name your Glog. Pick a category for it and set your Glogster's privacy to Public or Private. You may also choose to tag your Glog. Then, SAVE it!

I can not wait to see what you and your students create with this site.
